The whole coast of <\/span>J\u00e1vea is beautiful, but more specifically the area of <\/span>Cap de la Nao. is a spectacle for kayak lovers. There are many sections worthy of being navigated and explored with our small and manageable boats that allow us to get within inches of the cliff walls and get into its countless nooks and crannies and caves. But undoubtedly for us the best kayaking route in J\u00e1vea is the stretch between the <\/span>Granadella beach and <\/span>Portitxol beach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

It is a route of about 5 km. It is linear, that is, only one way so you must organize the logistics involved. Starting in a different place from where you finish is quite cumbersome in terms of organizing with vehicles, waiting times, … But being a fairly affordable distance, if you have the habit of shoveling is no barbarity to make a round trip to facilitate the issue of organization. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We start our route from the <\/span>Granadella Beach. This cove is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain, so from the beginning of your adventure you will feel in a real paradise. The access to the water can be made from the beach itself or from a small jetty on the left (be careful because the cement ramp is very slippery). Both options usually do not pose any difficulty because the entire beach is in a small bay and the cliff walls on both sides protect the beach from possible inclement weather. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Once in the water we will start to paddle out of the bay and turn left. We will continue sticking to the stone wall enjoying the scenery and after about 15 minutes of route we will arrive at a small cove hidden behind a huge boulder. This is the <\/span>Cala en Cal\u00f3. It is one of those dream places that are still more or less virgin because its access is only possible by sea. We took the opportunity to take a swim and do some snorkeling in this cove as it is worth it. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We continue our journey, as always near the cliff. Not far away we will arrive at the Cova del Llop Mar\u00ed. This is a large sea cave that we can enter with our boats to visit it. There is not much option to disembark in its interior although if the sea is quite calm a small snorkel can be an interesting option. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After the visit to the cave, we headed towards <\/span>Cala Ambolo. We have the option of passing through a small strait that is between the cliff and the <\/span>Discovery Island or directly, if you feel like shoveling, you can go around the island. It is an elongated island with high vertical walls that make it almost inaccessible. Its name comes, according to popular history in honor of a local sailor, named Bartolom\u00e9, who was in the crew of one of the ships commanded by Christopher Columbus in his discovery of America. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After passing the island we arrive at <\/span>Cala Ambolo. A wide pebble beach where the landing will not be complicated. Good option for a technical stop for a small lunch or a swim in its crystal clear waters. It is the only nudist beach on the coast of Javea, although currently its road access is closed due to risk of landslides. Cala Ambolo owes its name to the watchtower built in the sixteenth century, another of the “towers of conquest” that were built at that time in order to control the arrival of pirates to our shores. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After this stop we continue our way to go to the tip of <\/span>Cap de la Nao, it is a slightly longer stretch without the possibility of landing but beautiful. When you look at the map of Spain it is the small point that stands out more to the East in the middle of the Mediterranean coast. So here we go! <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Once at the tip of the cape if we turn we can see the <\/span>Cova dels \u00d2rgues. It is a spectacular cave in which there is a rocky area where you can disembark. Also inside the cave the waters are always crystal clear and calm because there is a large rock in front of the entrance that acts as a natural barrier, which makes it a perfect place for snorkeling. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After this mandatory stop we continue shoveling a stretch of cliff where we can see ancient remains of wooden ladders, ropes and platforms. These are the old “Pesqueras de Single”. <\/p>\n

Also on this stretch, remember to look back from time to time because the views of the headland and the lighthouse are spectacular.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Also in this section there are several interesting nooks and crannies to approach and enter with the kayak. But we will not disembark again until we reach a small cove that was formed in a hidden corner a few years ago due to a big storm. It is the “Cala Paradis”, a dream place for its hidden location and barely noticeable if you do not know it. Incredible crystal clear waters (if you look at the second picture it seems that the kayak is suspended in the air). Although being small in size it loses its charm if you do not enjoy it in “petit comit\u00e9”. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We are not far from the end of this fantastic trip, after skirting the <\/span>Cap Negre we will be in the bay of <\/span>Portixol <\/span>. where we can already see in the distance the beach with the same name. Its white houses with blue windows and doors give it a special charm. But if you still have strength left, we recommend a last stop at the <\/span>Portixol Island. The landing is complicated if the sea moves more than normal, but if you make it the visit is worth it. There you can explore a small cave with a natural window with spectacular views and enjoy a natural pool where a swim is always worth it. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As in previous posts, finally, some small tips and observations:<\/p>\n

  1. This route can be done in both directions, check the weather and depending especially on the wind, decide from where it is worth leaving.<\/li>\n
  2. Be careful where you leave your kayak. Do not leave it “parked” in passing areas or other places where it may disturb other boaters. <\/li>\n
  3. Please pick up your trash before you leave.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Be careful not to throw swimmers in and out of crowded spots with your kayak.<\/li>\n
